We are very happy to announce that a percentage of total proceeds from this year’s run will again support three amazing organizations:
IKhaya Likababa (uMhlatuze, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa)
Durban Baby House (KwaZulu Natal, South Africa)
Adoption Support Centre (Saskatoon, SK, Canada)
iKhaya likaBaba, a non-profit organization in uMhlatuze, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa gets its name from a zulu phrase meaning, The Father's House. Started by a group of individuals who were struck by compassion for the children of South Africa, The Father’s House provides a place where abandoned babies and AIDS orphans can find shelter and love. With a trained and skilled staff of caregivers, nurses, occupational therapist, doctors and physical therapists, the home provides culturally appropriate care to ensure the babies develop to their full potential.
The Adoption Support Centre of Saskatchewan has been providing services to the adoption community since 1993. Their objective is to offer current information and resource services to the Saskatchewan adoption community. Aside from the services provided to members, they inform the public of developments occurring around adoption and advocate for and on behalf of those affected by adoption issues.
The Durban Baby House was officially opened in October 2010 and currently serves 8 adoptable babies between the ages of 1 month to 1 year. In a city that sees 150 babies abandoned monthly, the Baby House is an essential service that desires to serve babies with love, support and care; however, to expand their services the Baby House is reliant on volunteers and donations.
